Do you want to make money with affiliate marketing on your website but don’t know how? Follow this how to sell affiliate products from my website guide to learn how.
Affiliate marketing is a great way to monetize your website. That is, if you know how to do it right. There’s so many ways out there that claim to be a quick fix to affiliate marketing.
Truthfully, there’s no such thing as a quick way to do affiliate marketing. It’s still a business. And for any business to be successful, it needs to be done right.
So, let’s begin at the beginning and look at the basics of affiliate marketing.
Affiliate Marketing in a Nutshell
Simply, affiliate marketing is where you use your content to promote someone else’s product or services. When someone purchases the product or services, you receive a commission.
Here’s the process:
- Join an affiliate program
- Promote their products- through links within your content on your website
- Track the sales
- Earn a commission
Now, let’s break this down a little further. First of all, your website needs to be operational before you apply. Some affiliate programs are going to want to know your traffic numbers.
Secondly, it’s good to know that just because you apply to join a program, that doesn’t mean you’ll always be accepted. Some affiliate programs are easier to get into than others.
Thirdly, tracking sales implies making sales. If you want people to buy from your links, you have to get them to see your links. In addition, this means traffic after your links have been added.
Finally, how much commission you earn and when you get paid are set forth by the affiliate program. Incidentally, the program also establishes what’s considered a qualifying sale.
And, this is just the basics of affiliate marketing.
Going Deeper Into Affiliate Marketing
In addition to the above, you’ll want to how your going to get traffic to your site. While there are many traffic sources, you have to consider the right type of traffic source for your website. You have to go where your audience is.
It doesn’t do you any good to go somewhere to find your particular audience if that’s not where they will be found. You need to promote your website where your audience congregates on the internet. So, pick the traffic source that matches your audience.
What do you once you have visitors?
You Have to Build Trust
After gaining traffic, you need to turn your traffic into repeat visitors. It takes 7 touches to make an impact. In other words, your visitor needs to “hear” your message 7 times before he/she acts on it.
Why is that? It’s a matter of trust. The more a visitor returns to your website, the more he/ she trusts you. Indeed, this trust is built upon the connection you’ve made with your visitor.
What’s the effect of that trust? Simply, your visitor will trust that the products will be helpful because you’ve been helpful.
The end result- He/She clicks on your links.
The Customer Purchase Cycle
But is that still enough? Unfortunately, no it’s not enough. You still need to move them from clicking the link to buying the product. You see, there’s 3 phases to the customer purchase cycle: research, decision, purchase.
To illustrate, let’s say your desk chair is causing your back to ache. So, you go and research desk chairs. Now, you have a good idea what your looking for in a desk chair. Then, you narrow down your choices, so you’re at the point of decision.
But, which one will you choose? You need to be moved from the decision stage to where you’re actually making a purchase.
Now, let’s say I’m promoting desk chairs on my website. To get you to buy, I need to move you from research, through the decision phase, all the way into making the purchase. I do this with my content.
So, how do you accomplish this? This requires a better affiliate marketing process that I will show you below.
My How to Sell Affiliate Products on My Website Guide
Whereas, the traditional model starts with the affiliate program, I’m going to take you in a different direction. The earlier model assumes you already got how to create website content down. But, I’m starting at the very beginning. In life, I’ve learned to never assume anything.
Plus, my process shifts focus dramatically so that you can build trust as you walk your visitors through the customer purchase process.
Without further ado, here’s the better affiliate marketing process I promised you:
- Know Your Audience
- Focus on Writing Content that Helps Your Audience
- Find affiliate programs that matches the content you’ve written
- Apply to join program
- insert affiliate links naturally and appropriately into your content
- Gain traffic
- Track sales
- Earn a commission
Going a little deeper, you need to start with your audience. It’s who you built your website for. Even more, it’s who you’re writing your content for.
So, it goes without saying that you need to know them: their habits (including spending habits), where they go online, and their demographics. More importantly, you need to know their problems and needs.
Consequently, this is what your content will address. Write your content to meet their needs. In fact, this is how you build that trust you need to move through the customer purchase cycle.
“Content is King.”- Have you ever heard that. Well, it’s true. If you create your content first, then you’re focusing on your audience and not on the products you promote. It’s less salesy this way. And, you’re writing to help.
By the way, when I say insert your links naturally, I mean find affiliate programs that match your content. And, make sure that your links fit the flow of your content. Don’t force the connection.
Where to Go If You Want to Know More
So, there you go. Hopefully, you now have a better grasp with using affiliate marketing to monetize your website.
But, what if you need more help? Of course, I’m always ready to help you. It’s why I created the site.
Where else can you turn?
Let’s say you want to know more about the customer purchase cycle. Or, you want step-by-step instructions on inserting affiliate links.
